Growing up, I loved to put BBQ sauce on
everything! Maybe it was the sweetness of the sauce, or maybe the fact that I grew up in the south, but either way, I loved it!

Two of my favorite things to put BBQ sauce on were hamburgers and onion rings, so I combined these two in my latest meatball sub recipe!

I partnered up with my friends at King's Hawaiian to serve these scrumptious subs up on their Sweet Hawaiian Hot Dog Buns. The combination of soft, sweet rolls, rich, hearty meatballs, thick, sweet BBQ sauce and crispy, salty onions is definitely a winner!
Ingredients - 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground pork
- ½ cup red onion (minced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp Kosher salt
- 1 tsp dark brown sugar
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
- ¼ tsp mustard powder
- 1 egg (whisked)
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (divided)
- 8 King's Hawaiian Hot Dog Buns
- 1 cup crispy onions
Preheat the grill to medium. Combine the ground beef, ground pork, red onion and garlic in a large bowl.

Add the chili powder, paprika, kosher salt, brown sugar, cumin, black pepper, mustard powder, egg, and ½ cup BBQ sauce. Combine all of the ingredients, then form into 16 meatballs.

Place the meatballs on the grill. Grill for 6-8 minutes, flip, then grill for an additional 6-8 minutes. About 3 minutes before removing the meatballs from the grill, place the hot dog buns on the grill to lightly toast. Remove the buns and meatballs from the grill and place 2 meatballs on each bun. Top with the crispy onions and drizzle the additional BBQ sauce over the top.

One of the reasons I love this recipe is because it's easily prepared in 30 minutes, making it perfect for weeknight dinners, as well as weekend BBQs!
